About this check-in
General information only. These original questions and reflections are not a validated screening tool, a diagnosis or a substitute for professional advice. Reflections look at how often difficulties came up in the answers you chose to share. There is no total score. Each area combines only the answers shared in that area; positively worded questions are read in reverse. Skipped questions are left out, and an unanswered area stays blank. The bands are editorial guides, not validated cut-offs. Ideas are practical examples informed by the sources below, not a treatment plan.
Changes in sleep, appetite, mood or time spent with friends can be a reason to check in. These changes can have many causes. Notice what is different for your young person rather than assuming it is school stress.
Choose a quiet moment and try: “I’ve noticed this week has been tough. How are things feeling?” Listen first, without jumping to marks or solutions. Ask what would help and offer to speak with a teacher together about workload.
If changes persist, worsen or affect everyday life, help them connect with school wellbeing staff, a GP or headspace. You can contact Kids Helpline or Beyond Blue for guidance too. If anyone is in immediate danger, call 000.
